By official mandate, it was commanded by a three-star general officer of the Army, a High Jedi General provided by the Headquarters, Jedi Council. The Special Operations Command was a legion-sized command with integrated combat, support, and command elements organic to its organization. It served as a unified headquarters that commanded, trained, and had operational control (OPCON) of all of the various Commando, Advanced Reconnaissance Commando, Covert Operations, Assassin, and Shadow units of the Republic Army.
Its secondary responsibilities also included counterterrorism and unconventional warfare. Responsible for the command and control of all Republic special operations forces, it was principally tasked with conducting advance force operations in the hostile or denied battlespace in order to support conventional Republic forces. The Galactic Republic Special Operations Command ( GRSOC) was a combatant command of the Grand Army of the Republic, responsible for providing a special operations capability to the Republic Army during the Clone Wars.
